The Artist

Jenny Yoshida Park works with paper in many of its myriad forms, including artists’ books, collage, and mixed media works on paper. In these, she explores the vast and wonderful, strange and awful aspects of being a human American in the twenty-first century, CE. She questions the authority of our traditional hierarchies of knowledge and highlights the gut feelings, trivial flotsam, idiosyncrasies, tragedies, and embarrassments that are usually edited out of the official record. With keen observation, she gathers together the beautiful, funny, and curious pebbles of phrases, images, words, and experiences that map our earthly reality.

At the same time, she zooms her brain out to think of our existence on this rock-sphere hurtling through space in a boundless universe. Holding both of those thoughts at once is where the heart of her art lies.

Yoshida Park is a Southern California-based artist and graphic designer. She studied art at UC Berkeley and received an MFA from San Diego State University in graphic design and book arts. She publishes her own editions of artists' books under the imprint Evidence of the Hand.
