PERSONAL

Jenny Yoshida Park's personal work takes the form of books, drawings, and collage. Often beginning with reference books as starting points, she injects evidence of humanity into what appear to be rigid, dispassionate, and neutral tomes. Visual manifestations of trains of thought, sense of humor, organic systems of association, collections of little scraps of information, jargon, pop culture, and iconography are woven into preexisting texts or organized onto blank pages. Letting her mind play, she makes unexpected, surprising connections between discrete areas of thought and knowledge. By adding these unexpected elements, the resultant tapestry is a more accurate depiction of the strange and varied human experience than what reference books alone can offer. Her work has been exhibited in the Athenaeum Music and Arts Library in La Jolla, the Wangenheim Room of the San Diego Central Library, San Diego State University's Flor y Canto Gallery and Donna Seager Gallery, and is held in the special library collections at the University of Iowa, Stanford University, the San Diego Public Library's Wangenheim Room, and San Diego State University.

Client

For me, each new project is a chance to explore and find the perfect solution for the creation at hand. My client-based work includes collaborations with artists who wish to transform their work into the form of the book; chapbooks designed, printed, and bound for poets; out-of-the-ordinary letterpress wedding invitations, business cards and stationery; boxes for precious items and books. From choosing materials, to designing layouts, to hand binding, every decision comes together to make the client's vision a reality. I look forward to taking this trip with you.
